2017 Quantitative Finance PhD Sponsorship Programme
Morgan Stanley Strats & Modelling (MSSM) provides revenue-generating activities that are centred on financial analytics. Embedded Desk Strategist (Strat) teams reside within our Sales & Trading businesses including Equity, Fixed Income and Commodities as well as our Banking businesses including Investment Banking and Global Capital Markets.
Desk Strategists are key participants, together with traders and sales people, in the revenue-generating activities of our Sales & Trading Division. Sitting on the trading desk, they are the primary modellers for new products, and work with the traders to deliver innovative ideas using models to analyse risks and opportunities in trading books for complex derivatives.
The MSSM Strat teams are looking to sponsor final year PhD students for up to one year of their studies while they work one day a week on the trading floor in our London office.
For this sponsorship programme, we are looking for talented PhD students focusing their research in areas relevant to the finance industry. The candidate will be looking to benefit from having access to the markets and data by being part of a dynamic trading floor and in return we are hoping to benefit from the insights of this research for our own analytics. As a key example, a candidate researching high-frequency trading can benefit from having access to exchange data and real world simulations to further their research. We are particularly interested in research which is cutting edge and of direct and immediate benefit to Morgan Stanley. We would hope to utilise the research directly into our trading systems for the ultimate test of its validity.
