We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with strong quantitative and computer skills, along with strong proficiency in German to support our team. The internships offer an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into the international operations of a global bank with a German environment.
All roles involve the extensive use of various Morgan Stanley computer systems, and present an excellent opportunity for candidates to develop their proficiency in the language and broaden their business knowledge within a challenging, stimulating and dynamic environment. Placements in Operations are available within the following groups:
The Settlements Group deals with all aspects of trade settlement done in the German market including Over-the-Counter (OTC) trades and stock exchange trades in different types of products. The goal of settlements is to ensure that outstanding trades are completed in time, in order to avoid financial risk for the firm. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will receive detailed on the job training to ensure successful step by step development. The gained knowledge of the post-trade financial industry infrastructure will create a good basis for every job in the financial sector.
The Client Service Group functions as a cross-product client facing team. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will be liaising with multiple Morgan Stanley operations teams, Morgan Stanley business units and German speaking clients. This varied role offers a great platform to develop an understanding of operational post-trade functions and financial product knowledge. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to work on a number of projects, including analysis of current operational functions, and also on identifying enhancement opportunities and implementing updates.
The Position Service Group deals with all aspects of corporate events including, but not limited to, dividend and coupon payments, production of tax certificates as well as the processing of Annual General Meetings. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will be primarily responsible for processing dividend and coupon payments accurately and in a timely manner, liaising with German agents and internal teams across the globe. Further responsibilities include completing appropriate daily activities and computing statistics. This varied role provides the individual with the opportunity to use their own initiative and serves as a great platform to develop a broader banking knowledge.
The Client On-boarding Group deals with all aspects of “Know Your Client” (KYC) and Anti-Money-Laundering processes. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will be liaising with local and overseas Morgan Stanley business units and compliance departments. This role provides you with the opportunity to work independently with the supervision from the team. You will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of Corporate Structures and enhance your German language skills.
The Tax Utility Group is responsible for setting the best practice with regard to controlling and mitigating operational tax risk and performs a number of control / operational functions over a variety of withholding and transactional taxes generated by trading activities across multiple divisions, including equities, fixed income, derivatives and financing. The main working tasks can be categorized into risk/advisory, and tax processing functions. These include but are not limited to monitoring and reviewing tax policy / regulation changes that affect tax processing, communicating the operational tax implications to various key stakeholders, and supporting operational functions within the tax utility space such as withholding tax, tax reclaim/documentation, transactional taxes, and audit/reconciliations.
