2020 Investment Management Summer Analyst Program - Private Equity Fund of Funds (West Conshohocken)

The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of training with all Investment Management Summer Analysts and nine weeks working within a specific group. During the 10-week program, Summer Analysts experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by performing a role similar to a Full-Time Analyst.
Training Program: The training program consists of a curriculum designed to equip Summer Analysts with the fundamental skills needed in order to be successful in IM. The program is one week long and includes a Firm-wide orientation, business overviews, professional development, technical training and networking events. A speaker series is also a part of training, and runs throughout the 10 week program.
Private Equity Team Description:
The Alternative Investment Partners Private Markets (AIP) team resides within Morgan Stanley Investment Management and has invested nearly $20bn in opportunities in a variety of private markets investment strategies including primary fund investing, co-investing, and secondary market investing. This team is staffed with over 50 professionals and has offices in suburban Philadelphia, New York, London and Hong Kong.
AIP is seeking current juniors (class of 2021) in a 4-year bachelor’s degree program for a Summer Analyst position based in suburban Philadelphia on its primaries/co-invest team, which manages private equity fund investing, as well as co-investing in direct deals.
Summer analysts will work closely with Portfolio Managers on deal teams and are responsible for investment analysis and execution, research, investment process management, transaction structuring and portfolio monitoring. The private equity program spans asset classes from venture capital to leveraged buyouts and special situations.
Role Description: The Private Equity Fund of Funds team is looking for Summer Analysts on its primary/co-investment team. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Work on live deals with the investment team, which typically consists of deal teams
- Handle investment analysis, research, investment process management, transaction structuring, and deal execution
- Perform financial analyses in support of the investment process (comparable company valuation analyses, LBO model construction, and projected return sensitivity analyses)
- Conduct research on a wide range of geographies, industries, companies, and macroeconomic trends
Required Skills:
- Current Junior (class of 2021) in a 4-year bachelor’s degree program with superior academic performance
- Highly motivated self-starter with a team orientation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- An understanding of financial concepts, valuation, and accounting; familiarity quantitative modeling preferred but not required
- Project management and execution skills with an ability to meet challenging deadlines while maintaining a high degree of quality and accuracy
- A high level of intellectual curiosity in developing knowledge of the private equity and capital markets
