2018 Operations Industrial Placement Programme (Frankfurt)
12-month Placement within the Operations Department from July 2018.
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with strong quantitative and computer skills, along with strong proficiency in German to support our team. The internships offer an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into the international operations of a global bank.
Placements in Operations are available within the Client Service Group, the New Issues and Client Onboarding Group, Settlements Group and Position Services Group:
The Settlements Group deals with all aspects of trade settlement done in the German market including Over-the-Counter (OTC) trades and stock exchange trades in different type of products. This is a varied role requiring sound product-, business- and system-knowledge as well as good analytical skills. A large number of daily functions have to be fulfilled to ensure that outstanding trades are completed in time in order to avoid financial risk for the firm. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will receive detailed on the job training to ensure successful step by step development. This will enable the candidate to support us within our daily work based on an increasing level of capabilities. Together with the practical experiences the gained business knowledge will create a good basis for every job in the financial sector.
The Client Service Group functions as a cross-product client facing team servicing German speaking focus clients. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will be liaising with multiple Morgan Stanley operations teams, Morgan Stanley business units and clients.
This varied role offers the opportunity to:
- gain an understanding of operational post-trade functions.
- develop system and product knowledge.
- analyse current operation functions, identify enhancement opportunities and implement updates.
- integrate and contribute to a team.
- strengthen German language skills through interaction with German speaking clients via email, telephone and in person.
The Position Service Group deals with all aspects of corporate events including, but not limited to, dividend and coupon payments, production of tax certificates as well as the processing of Annual General Meetings, concerning both clients’ portfolios and Morgan Stanley’s own holdings. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will primarily be responsible for processing dividend and coupon payments accurately and in a timely manner. Responsibilities further entail completing appropriate daily activities and computing statistics. This varied role provides the individual with the opportunity to use their own initiative and involves liaison with German agents in addition to other Morgan Stanley entities worldwide, by email and telephone.
The New Issues and Client Onboarding Group deals with all aspects of Know Your Client (KYC) and Anti-Money-Laundering processes. As a fully integrated member of the team, you will be liaising with local and overseas Morgan Stanley business units and Compliance departments. This varied role provides you with the opportunity to work independently, with the supervision of one of the other team members. You will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of Corporate Structures and legal forms of corporates. Furthermore, you will support the team in Interest Rate Fixings and Interest Payment processing. German language skills are required.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements
You are an International Business, Economics and/or Language students with strong German language and organisational skills.
You pay close attention to detail, have analytical and problem-solving skills, and are able to understand and evaluate complex information quickly.
You are a team player and are client-service oriented.
